To restore the phytoplankton in sea water which has become abiotic during storage, frozen blocks of the packaged phytoplankton are added to the abiotic sea water in order to restore natural conditions therein. The frozen blocks of phytoplankton are manufactured in a process in which algae cultures are inoculated into a culture medium such as sea water, then mineral salts and CO2 are added in order to increase the concentration of these algae, the algae are separated after settling has taken place, for example by centrifugation, and the concentrate is deep frozen for storage. The algae remain frozen until they are used, for which a desired quantity of these frozen blocks which contain the frozen concentrate is immersed into the abiotic sea water. The sea water reconstituted with phytoplankton can be used for thalassotherapy.
