A method for protecting message information in a personnel paging receiver in the event of exhaustion of a power supply, comprises the steps of testing a battery in order to determine whether it is in an exhausted state of power supply or not, during a normal operating state, of reducing the power consumption by cutting off control signals to an audio warning device (32), to a vibration motor (31) and to a lamp (33), and of displaying the state of exhaustion of the power supply on a display circuit (60) and then of returning to the step of testing the power supply. Consequently, even if information is received when a battery voltage falls below a predetermined reference value, it is possible to prevent a CPU of the main control circuit (40) being reinitialised. <IMAGE>
