PURPOSE: To increase contrast by using a material contg. silver halide particles chemically sensitized with org. thiosulfonate anions combined with a gold sensitizer in the absence of thiosulfate ions. CONSTITUTION: An imagewise exposed photographic material with a silver halide emulsion layer is developed with a liq. developer contg. hydroquinone in the presence of an auxiliary developer. The photographic material contains silver halide particles chemically sensitized with org. thiosulfonate anions combined with a gold sensitizer in the absence of thiosulfate ions. The anions are preferably p-tolylthiosulfonate anions and the pref. amt. of the anions used is 5×10<-5> to 5×10<-2> mol per 1mol silver halide.
