915,092. Belt gearing. REIMERS, W. Dec. 18, 1959 [Dec. 20, 1958], No. 43014/59. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group XXV] A link belt for use with a heavily-loaded expanding pulley gear comprises solid links 1 or 1<SP>1</SP> with multiple interfitting end-lugs 2 bored to receive pairs of connecting-pins 5 the individual members of which can rock and roll on each other, the outer surfaces 8 of the links and pins being cylindrical to engage the conical walls of the pulley frictionally over almost a continuous line throughout the contact zone. Projections 20 in the bores of the links engage grooves in the individual members of the pin pairs 5 so that each one of a pair turns with its link as it rolls on the other. The pin pitch is the minimum consistent with strength. The cylindrical surfaces may be struck on different radii on each side of the contact plane, in which ease the belt may be turned over to use a new surface after wear has occurred on the old. The chain may be composed of links 1 with end recesses cut as shown at 7, or of links 1<SP>1</SP> with recesses 7<SP>1</SP>. |
