Rotation of the armature (3) on its shaft (4) is transmitted through spur gearing (5) to a pinion (6) engaging a toothed wheel (7) of the engine. The speed of rotation is controlled by a centrifugal brake (13) whose effectiveness increases with speed of the shaft (4) in its bearing (10). As intermediate bearing holder (9) adjoins a run-up plate (24) which is urged against it pref. by a spring. The armature (3) is brought rapidly to a standstill after the engagement relay is de-energised.
