The solenoid has a frame-type yoke and a cylindrical armature, also a tappet working in a bore in the magnet core. Stops limit movement of the armature or tappet, between which a return spring acts. The core can have a stepped bore whose larger-diameter portion is towards the solenoid interior, while a distance washer sliding on the smaller-diameter portion of the tappet bears against the step.
