The locking device for cord consists of a plate-shaped housing having at least one duct which passes through it and is used for pulling a cord (30) through. Provided in the locking device for cord is a lock for fixing the cord (20) at a cord point (38) which can be selected. A slide (20) which is guided longitudinally in the housing (10) and can move at right angles to the duct is used for this purpose. In order to develop a cost-effective locking device for cord, which can be controlled in a convenient manner and is distinguished by a space-saving position of the cord (30), it is proposed to allow the duct to run parallel to the plate level of the housing (10) and the outlet openings (16) of the duct to be arranged on the narrow sides (17) of the housing (10). The broad plate surfaces (18) of the housing lie along the side of the cord (30) and are free, at least one being made use of as a support for picture and/or ornamentation elements.
