Organic polymer materials, esp. polyolefins, are claimed (I), which are stabilised against thermo-oxidative degradation; (I) contain a sulphur-contg. oxidn. inhibitor (II) and, as co-stabiliser (III), the polycondensation prod. of 8-hydroxy- or 8-mercapto- quinoline or a deriv. thereof (IV) and a carbonyl cpd. (V). Pref. (IV) is a cpd. of the above formula (with X = OH or SH; R1 = H or alkyl; R2-R4 = H, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl; at least two of these gps. = H); pref., (IV) is 8-hydroxy- or 2-methyl-8-hydroxy -quinoline and (V) is formaldehyde; (I) contains 0.1-5 (pref. 0.25-2.5) wt.% (III) and 0.1-1.0 wt.% 4,4'-thiobis -(3,6-di-tert. -butylphenol) (II), and is based on crosslinked LDPE or polymer blends based on PE or PP. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful as heat-resistant cable and circuit insulation materials. The above stabiliser combination gives good long-term protection against thermo-oxidative degradation, even at high service temps. in oxidising environments; these stabilisers are also resistant to extn. by the cable-filling materials used in filled communications cables.
