The reception circuit deals with signals transmitted over wires or by radio. A speech reception circuit processes the output signals of the reception circuit and energises a speech delivery device (8). The signal from the reception circuit is (de)modulated in a modem (9), whose output signals are processed by a microprocessor (10). The microprocessor is of such design that it compares a modem digital output signal with specific stored bit combinations in a number of partial steps according to bit sections. Thus the data signal is identified. For an indentified data signal the amplifying factor of an amplifier is reduced in the speech reception circuit. USE/ADVANTAGE - For cordless telephones, data exchange between personal computer, etc. with a facility for signal weakening of data signal only, on reception of speech and data signals on the same carrier frequency.
