PURPOSE:To obtain a light-detecting system for measuring accurately the position in the lateral direction of a moving object, e.g. a vehicle, in relation to a point located in front of the current position of the object along a road to be followed. CONSTITUTION:This light-detecting system irradiates a visual field containing objects 32, 34 and 36 located along a road in front in the direction of advance of an object, without necessitating a movable component. By providing a distance detecting channel 42 and an angle detecting channel 44 being separate from each other, moreover, the sizes of the whole of the system can be made small relatively, actually. By separating these two channels 42 and 44, CCD for integration can be used as the angle detecting channel 44 of a relatively low speed, while only one detector (e.g. only one photodiode) can be used as the distance detecting channel 42 of a relatively high speed. |
