A process of mfg. rolls of patterned labels in which several are woven or knitted in the width, sepd. in the warp by threads which can be melted. Firstly, the section of weft between the side edges of the labels is lifted, and sepd. into a narrow roll, and then the bare swathe of the woven foundation is cut by heat treatment. The appts. is also claimed. Pref., the loom weaves the warp as a basic foundation, and extra warp is applied to weave only the band in between the long edges of the labels. This warp responds to heat treatment. The labels in parallel are joined in the weft across the width of the fabric, advancing in direction. On reaching the roller, a series of devices across the width lift the weft threads from the foundation along each side of the woven label. The narrow band is carried upward in a roll. The narrow bare swathe of foundation fabric between the labels can be cut with a blade, or an electric heated wire in the device. The woven patterned labels now advance in separate rolls to a further device, which by heat treatment or adhesive, trims the edges of the labels, or folds back the foundation fabric to the back of the label, and bonds it to form a closed edge. ADVANTAGE - The problem of sepg. the patterned labels is overcome.
