PURPOSE:To sufficiently transmit and reproduce an additional signal for reproducing the high picture quality without generating the interruption at a present system receiver by devising the letter box processing. CONSTITUTION:To a wide aspect signal in which an aspect ratio becomes more oblong than the present system signal, the time direction of the vertical high area component is band-limited and transmitted. A difference signal (LD signal) between an interpolating scanning line generated by using plural upper and lower scanning lines of the band-limited image signal and scanning line to actually constitute the above-mentioned image signal and correspond to the interpolating scanning line is transmitted. For the LD signal, a means used as the information to compensate the interpolating scanning line of a first field is equipped, and from a successive scanning signal constituted of the obtained interpolating scanning line and a direct scanning line, the LD signal is generated again, and a means used to compensate the interpolating scanning line of a second field is provided. |
