METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ACCESSING DATA RECORDED FINALLY IN CONTINUOUS CHAIN

PURPOSE: To provide a method and device for speedily finding an area which is recorded last by scanning the successive chain. CONSTITUTION: A WORM disk has data stored in successive chains. The individual chains are arrayed as adjacent data storage areas in plural groups. Those groups are separated on the disk. Individual recorded areas in the chains have sequential points for following areas in the chains and it is not important whether a following area is in the same chain or a following chain. One area following the end of a group includes one or plural unrecorded assigned areas of a chain. To find the end of the chain, only the final area in an individual series of groups is accessed and read until an index showing that the area of the final group is not recorded when accessed is obtained. Then the last whole group is scanned to find the last recorded area of the chain.
