A method of improving transplant donor organ function or treating a patient suffering from ischemia or hypoperfusion in an internal organ as a result of trauma or insult, comprising the intravenous administration to the donor or patient of from about 10 to about 3000 mu g/kg, based on patient body weight, of the narcotic antagonist nalmefene in an injectable vehicle. Intravenous fluids, from 1 to 100 ml/kg, may be administered concomitantly with the nalmefene to maintain proper hydration. |
