PURPOSE:To protect a photosensitive body incorporated in a process cartridge and to prevent developer from scattering and flowing out from a cleaning device and a developing device. CONSTITUTION:Shielding members 32 and 38 which can move to retreat are provided on the image transfer area and the image exposing area of the photosensitive belt 1, and elastic shielding plates C1 and C2, and C3 and C4 are arranged in gaps between the photosensitive belt 1 and the developing devices 11 and 8, and a cleaning device 13, respectively. In the case that the process cartridge is at a position where an image can be formed, the respective shielding members automatically retreat from the image transfer area and the image exposing area, and simultaneously the respective shielding plates are separated from the peripheral surface of the belt 1 so as to set the belt 1 in a carrying state. In the case that it is taken out to the outside of the device, the respective shielding members are manually restored to shielding positions to protect the belt 1, while the respective shielding plates are restored to the press-contacting position of the belt 1 to prevent the developer from scattering and flowing out. |
