The invention relates to a system for holding a rigid knife in a rigid or flexible sheath using a mechanical system. The system is made up of a simple mechanism comprising a hook (2) surmounted by a fastening spur or stud, and terminated at its outer end by an entry taper allowing it to pass through and be hooked in the hole (7) made in the guard (I). The hook (2) holds the guard (I) secured to the knife (5) by virtue of a spring (3). The knife engages in the holding system secured to the sheath (4) by simple pressure or by the action of its own weight. In order to remove the knife from this position it is sufficient to exert a pressure in the opposite direction from the pressure of the spring (3) on the hooks (2) in order to release these from the holes (7) in the guard (I). This principle can also be applied, by means of a system of the "A" module type, to flexible sheaths. <IMAGE>
