<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of disclination without narrowing an effective display part and to improve the display quality. CONSTITUTION:This device is constituted by providing a recessed part 47a narrowed in electrode width in the peripheral part of a picture element electrode 47 corresponding to the position where the reverse tilt generated in a liquid crystal layer is generated by a signal electrode line 46 and providing a projecting part 46c widened in electrode width on the signal electrode line 46 in the state of inserting this part into the recessed part. The strain direction g3 of electric lines of force is directed from above to below and in an arrow direction in the right side part C of the recessed parts 47a. The projection vector is thus made in nearly the same direction as the tilt direction of liquid crystal molecules f directing from below to above. The point where the reverse tilt hardly arises is, therefore, obtd. This point is parted to two points and the disclination is generated by the presence of the right side part C where the reverse tilt hardly arises. The disclination is reduced as a whole and, i.e., is made into the suppressed state.</p> |
