Piston for rack of servo steering in motor vehicle - with rigid holder between cylinder and rack, with elastic device around rack, for good seal

The piston is mounted sliding in a cylinder of the steering housing. It has a seal and a friction ring, so that the cylinder forms at least one of the pressure chambers at either end of the cylinder. The steering rack is surrounded by the piston, and it is moved by charging a pressure in one of the chambers, when the steering wheel is turned. A rigid holder (12) between cylinder and rack, carries seal and friction ring. The holder acts with a ring-shaped elastic device (13), which is mounted sealed around the steering rack (40). This guarantees permanently the non-friction and sealed contact between friction ring (10) and cylinder (2). A rigid clamp (14) is fastened sealed between steering rack and elastic device. USE/ADVANTAGE - Steering gear for road vehicle is cheap, easy to assemble, good seal indepedent of deformations of steering rack.
