COLOR SELECTION METHOD AND APPARATUS

A method using a plurality of color selectors and without requiring the use of colorimetry or a palette display of all available colors, for selecting a color for a desired area on a color display device is disclosed which operates according to the following steps: 1) choosing one of a plurality of color selectors; 2) selecting a color using the chosen color selector; 3) displaying the currently selected color; 4) repeating steps 1), 2) and 3) until the selected color is acceptable. Once an acceptable color has been selected, it is displayed in the desired area of the color display device. One color selector is disclosed which operates according to the following steps: 1) displaying a fixed palette of preselected colors on the color display device; 2) selecting any two of the preselected colors to be endpoint colors of a color interpolator; 3) creating a palette of interpolated colors as a result of interpolating the two end-point colors; 4) selecting a color from either the fixed palette or the interpolated palette.
