The combustion air preheater consists of a pot-shaped housing fixed to and reaching into, the intake and has two side fitted gill-like openings to admit the air. The openings are formed by two flat impressed guide sheets whose rear cut-off edge lie together in a plane dividing the inside of the housing into a passivated air mixing space upstream and a turbulised combustion space downstream. A perforated vaporiser inside the preheater housing is entered at an angle by a glow plug and injects fuel into and fuel stream ignited by the glow plug. The glow plug (7) heating zone (11) is restricted to the plug part reaching deepest into the vaporiser (5) so that the heating zone lies for the most part within the mixing space. ADVANTAGE - Increased flame stability and fuel burn by speeding up glow-plug heating time.
