Liq. analysing bio-sensor arrangement - has membrane tensioning flaps facilitating membrane exchange

An arrangement for a liq.-analysing biosensor system consists of a combined membrane tensioning and exchanging device for stretching a membrane over the top of a miniature electrode which is fixed in an insulating body and which has a measuring electrode body enclosed by a counter-electrode. The top of the counter-electrode (3) has a domed shape, matching the top of the measuring electrode (1) and electrode body (2), and has a central opening (4) which accommodates the top of the measuring electrode (1) and which has a dia. up to twice that of the measuring electrode; (ii) the membrane tensioning and exchanging device consists of an upper flap (9) connected to a lower flap (8) which can pivot for membrane (7) exchange and which has a passage hole (10), widened at its lower portion to form a cylindrical recess (11); (iii) the upper portion of the passage hole (10) has a depression (12) for receiving the medium to be measured, the depression extending to the bottom of the recess (11) which accommodates a teflon ring (13) for tensioning and sealing the membrane (7); and (iv) the central hole of the teflon ring (13) accommodates the miniature electrode, such that its top and the stretched membrane (7) extend into the depression (12) and the upper edge (14) of the insulating body (6) seals the membrane (7) against the bottom of the recess (11). USE/ADVANTAGE - The arrangement is used esp. as a small manual medical and environmental analysis unit. It is suited to all biochemical measurement processes employing membrane-covered miniature electrodes, has low susceptibility to faults, is inexpensive to mfr. and facilitates membrane exchange.
