The battery compartment cover comprises a bung with a peripheral sealing edge cooperating with the inwards angled peripheral edge of the battery compartment opening in the watch back, to provide a hermetic seal. The bung is made from a stiff elastic material with a curved central section acting as a snap-action spring, which is bent inwards when the bung is in the sealed position, to act against the base of the battery cell. Pref. the bung has a radially projecting lip of reduced thickness acting against the idented peripheral pin of the battery compartmentt opening.
