On a core (5), which is at least partly electrically conductive, a dielectric layer (6) is deposited consisting mostly of non-oxide material. The core used is pref. a material which can be shaped easily, has good heat conductivity and about the same expansion coefft. as the dielectric. The dielectric coating is pref. BN, AlN or Si3N4, mixtures of these cpds. or mixtures of oxides and non-oxide materials. It is pref. densified to at least 95% of the theoretical density and deposited by physical vapour deposition, chemical vapour deposition sintering or chemical reaction sintering or by plasma spraying. If BN is used the hexagonal anisotropic form is preferred.
