The electromagnetic rotary actuator provides a maximum movement of 180 degrees for operation of the throttle of an IC engine. The unit has an outer stator (1) that is formed from two stacks of metal plates (11, 12) that are secured by bolts to an aluminium base. The inner surface of the stator is shaped to receive the rotor assembly. Field costs (13, 14) are located on formers (10) set around the laminated stators. The rotor has a centre spindle (8) set into an iron core (9) with a pair of permanent magnet elements (5). ADVANTAGE - Provides high torque linearly related to current.
