A method and system for locating a concealed structure such as a pipe (30) or manhole (34) communicating with the pipe (30), the system comprising a transmitter (6) for transmitting a sound signal (8) into the pipe (30), a receiver (20) for receiving a resultant sound signal (22) transmitted to the exterior of the pipe (30) and a monitor (16) for monitoring the signal strength of the received resultant signal (22), the receiver (20), in use, being successively placed at a plurality of locations around the pipe (30) to receive the resultant signal (22) such that the location of the pipe (30) or manhole (34) is determined in accordance with that one of said locations at which there is a maximum in the monitored signal strength. |
