PURPOSE: To provide an improved method for exchanging customization characteristics of fixed form business data. CONSTITUTION: A set of customization characteristics that can be utilized to translate business data between a 1st and a 2nd data format is generated. The customization characteristics are translated to a standard data exchange format when necessary, and transmitted to all relative entities in decentralized data processing systems. Then the set of customization characteristics can be utilized by all the decentralized data processing systems so as to guarantee the standardized translation of business data between the 1st and 2nd data formats. In one example, respective receivers of transmitted customization characteristics transmit positive acknowledgement response of the reception. The customization characteristics are stored in a center database for periodic access by some entity in the decentralize data processing system that desires the translation of the fixed format business data.
