The mechanical and pneumatic system is for distance-detection, locking and drilling-cycle control of a pneumatic drill-feed unit, with a compressed-air motor feeding forward the screwed spindle accommodating the drill bit. The drill feed mechanism (11) is inserted in a bush with the air supply shut off, this being opened up when the codings of the two agree, while a bayonet coupling is pneumatically locked. The drilling cycle is initiated, the drill head being moved forward by a quick-traverse mechanism into the starting position. It then performs drilling, reaming and countersinking feed movements as far as a pre-set end position, followed by automatic quick-traverse rearwards into the rest position, after which the motor is turned off, the feed mechanism is pneumatically unlocked and removed from the bush into the rest position. USE/ADVANTAGE - Largely automatic operation, reduced idle time, and no turning to lock bayonet coupling.
