The computer system with a processor for performing logical processes stored in a non-volatile memory also contg. data is coupled to arrangements for reading and programming the non-volatile memory. The computer system has an arrangement for updating the processing logic of the operating system whilst the logic is being exercised. The non-volatile memory is in the form of a flash memory component and is divided into at least two separately clearable and programmable sections contg. respectively recovery processing logic and data and normal operating system processing logic and data. ADVANTAGE -Enables control codes and data in non-volatile memory to be updated and/or changed without removing any covering or part of system.
