PURPOSE:To exhibit removing activity for NOx even in an exhaust gas of an automobile engine used in a lean region or in a gas containing no reducing gas. CONSTITUTION:Misch metal as rare earth metal and Ru as noble metal are alloyed and the alloy is brought in contact with the hydrogen gas while heating, and is cooled to incorporate hydrogen in the alloy to attain hydrogen storing activity. The catalyst exhibits about 100% removing activity for THC and CO in >=14.5 A/F in a lean region and satisfactory activity for removal of NOx. The catalyst can also remove NO in a gas mixture of NO and N2 not containing HC and CO at all. |
