<p>A marine cable retrieval apparatus for retrieving marine seismic cable (14) on board a ship (22) which reduces longitudinal tension force on the cable at the cable storage reel (20) when the cable storage reel (20) is winding up the cable. The apparatus of this application reduces the tension on a portion (24) of marine cable (14) so that the portion (24) can be retrieved upon a storage reel (20). The apparatus includes a collar (26) attached to the marine cable (14) and a cable retrieval tool (12) which is placed around the marine cable (14). The cable retrieval tool (12) has a biasing mechanism (32) which will allow the tool (12) to pass over the collar (26) attached to the marine cable (14) when it is moving away from the ship (22), but when it is moving toward the ship the biasing mechanism (32) will engage the collar (26).</p> |
