<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the subject filter medium, composed of strings to which microorganisms stick and spacers for winding the aforementioned string and keeping the string at a regular interval, useful as a water tank for rearing live fishes, etc., decomposing ammonia, etc., excreted from fishes and capable of suppressing occurrence of filter medium clogging with dust, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective filter medium is composed of strings 1 to which microorganisms stick (a string prepared by forming pores and unevennesses on the material surface of a mineral substance) and spacers 3 for winding the above-mentioned strings and keeping the strings at a regular interval. Since part of microorganisms 4 sticking to the strings 1 enter the interior of the strings to be anaerobic, the resultant filter medium is capable of decomposing nitrate nitrogen, decomposing and purifying ammonia and nitrite nitrogen of nitrogen compounds excreted from fishes with aerobic microorganisms sticking to the surfaces of the strings.</p> |
