PURPOSE:To accurately set up a gap between a light source and a waveguide layer by forming a light source positioning member on the light source side end face of a base on which the waveguide layer is formed. CONSTITUTION:Since the gap between the light source 1 and the waveguide layer 3 exerts large influence upon coupling efficiency, the gap should be accurately set up to a prescribed dimension. Therefore the positioning member 5 for the light source 1 is formed on the light source side end face 9 of the base 2 on which the layer 3 is formed. Since the gap La between the light source 1 and the end face of the layer 3 can be accurately set up to the prescribed dimension by controlling the thickness of the member 5, the gap La with the prescribed dimension can be accurately and simply obtained. When the member 5 is formed by a material capable of interrupting light except a position between the projecting end face of the light source 1 and the incident end face of the layer 3, light not to be coupled with the layer 3 can be interrupted by the member 5. |
