An item of equipment for combating moles, water voles and similar pests with system of galleries in the earth surface comprises a container 2 with a lid 4. In the side of the container there is a hose connection 10 for a hose 12 designed for introduction into the system of galleries 14. The hose end can be provided with an annular end piece 16 for a plate piece 18, by means of which it can be ensured that the hose mouth 20 sits well down in the system of galleries but is slightly raised above the bottom of the gallery. A gas generating substance, for example carbide and water, is placed in the container. The equipment is simple but effective whilst being environmentally acceptable.
