A process for producing a high bulk density granular detergent is disclosed, which comprises the steps of: (1) milling a solidified detergent material; (2) classifying the milled detergent material obtained in said step (1) into two powder portions by the particle size; (3) granulating the fine powder portion classified in said step ( 2); (4) mixing the granulation product of fine powder portion obtained in said step (3) with the coarse powder portion classified in said step (2); and (5) surface modifying the mixture obtained in the step (4). According to the process of the present invention for producing a high bulk density granular detergent, it becomes possible to give a granular detergent of a uniform particle size, to control the bulk density of the granular detergent, and to reduce the scale of the production equipment.
