PURPOSE:To provide the medium for optical amplification of 1.3mum which is used for communication of a 1.3mum band and can be amplified in a full- wavelength region and the optical amplifier. CONSTITUTION:The medium 4 for optical amplification of the optical amplifier having a signal light source 1, a light source 2 for excitation of a 0.98mum band, the medium 4 for optical amplification of the 1.3mum band and an optical means for multipliexing the signal light from the signal light source 1 and the laser beam from the light source 2 for excitation and introducing the multiplexed light to the medium 4 for optical amplification is constitued by having a core and clad and adding both praseodymium and ytterbium into at least the core or having the core and clad and adding both the praseodymium and erbium into at least the core.
