PURPOSE: To provide a dimensional-stability, closed cell polyolefin foam having reduced blowing agent content to an end user by cooling to an extent sufficient to prevent shrinkage of the foam structure portions upon initiation of release of the blowing agent and by excising the crimped end portions. CONSTITUTION: An expandable polyolefin is extruded to form a continuous foam structure 20 which is intermittently provided with crimps 24 and the crimped foam structure 30 is intermittently severed at the crimps 24 so as to form the discrete foam structure portion 40 having the end portion 34 of the crimps 24. The foam structure portion 40 is cooled at an extent sufficient to prevent shrinkage of the foam structure portion 40 upon initiation of release of the blowing agent, the end portions 34 of the crimps 24 are excised from the remainder of the discrete foam structure portions 40 to initiate release of the flammable blowing agent, and uncrimped, discrete foam structure portions 50 are formed to provide them to the end user. |
