PURPOSE:To improve charging and discharging properties in a cycle initial stage by activating a hydrogen-occluding alloy from the cycle initial stage. CONSTITUTION:In a metal-hydrogen alkali secondary battery having an anode 2 containing rare earth metal-based hydrogen-occluding alloy and a cathode 1, the rare earth metal-based hydrogen-occluding alloy contains praseodymium and neodymium. The ratio of praseodymium to the whole rare earth metals is defined to be no more than 3wt.% and/or the ratio of neodymium to the whole rare earth metals is defined to be no more than 15wt.%.
