PURPOSE: To obtain a laser engraving metering roller improved for its life and to prolong an effective life of a cooperating doctor blade by perpendicularly orienting a cell wall of a cell formed on a coating on an outer surface of a roller, and incorporating a plurality of cells each having an opening end at an outer surface of the roller. CONSTITUTION: The roller for use with a surface-scraping doctor blade comprises a cylindrical core 101 having a core surface, and a coating 105 of a polymer material 104 on the core surface and having a predetermined thickness, predetermined volume % and a hard wear resistant particles. A plurality of cells 104 are formed on the coating 105 having a surface for forming an outer surface of the roller. Each cell has at least one cell wall which is oriented perpendicularly to the outer surface of the roller and has a plurality of cells 104 having opening ends at an outer surface position of the roller. |
