The method of manufacturing and colouring metal strips wound flat is noteworthy in that it consists, starting from a reel (1) of wound metal strips which are not treated by colouring and/or lacquering, in conveying the said strip towards at least one station (2) allowing it to be coloured and/or lacquered over a predetermined length or zone (L1), then in conveying the said treated length (L1) allowing, in succession, the treatment by colouration and/or lacquering of the next zone (L2) over a predetermined length, and then in thus continuing the cycle until the treatment of colouring and/or lacquering over all or part of the totality of the length of the strip, thus defining a plurality of parts or zones of coloured strips (L1, L2, L3...Ln) and in that the colouration and/or lacquering treatment station or stations are arranged and make it possible to colour and/or lacquer according to shades of different colourings, and in that the said metal strip is rewound onto a reel, and in that the final wound reel thus has a plurality of zones (L1, L2, L3,..Ln) which are coloured or lacquered with different dyes and shades. <IMAGE>
