It comprises an optical propagation path, an optical system for producing a phase modulation and a modulation of the time of flight by means of a sawtooth analog signal (A15), a unit (40) for processing a photoelectric output signal (A2) coming from the optical system in order to produce a numerical error datum (D1) which corresponds to a phase difference between the light beams propagating in opposite directions, a unit (50) for numerical regulation of the frequency of a sawtooth signal and for modulating the time of flight on the basis of the error datum and a unit (60) for creating a sawtooth analog signal on the basis of the datum (D4) of the numerically regulated frequency, so that, by changing the frequency of the time of flight modulation, it is possible to extend a detection range of an input angular rotation speed and achieve operation of the gyroscope in a wide dynamic range. <IMAGE>
