The floating body such as a boat, platform etc., has a hollow chamber providing the necessary buoyancy. The body (1) has one or more collapsible buoyancy bodies (2), inflated by gas in an emergency. This can be contained inside the main body, or mounted outboard. It can be connected to a gas pressure bottle (4), from which it is inflated via a hand-operated valve (5). Alternatively, the valve can be automatic, reacting to water. There can be a pressure-reducing valve between bottle and control valve, and the buoyancy body can be inside the main one and where it is not accessible to the crew.
