An approximately adiabatic furnace (10) contains a combustion chamber (11) surrounded by a pressure space (9) insulated (13) from the environment, with an inlet from the space (17) around the chimney (15). Air drawn from outside is compressed (2) into this space (17), and leaves the furnace (10) through an outlet (18) to a drive unit (4) which powers a DC generator (3) in addn. to the compressor (2). The expanded air is recirculated (6) to the combustion chamber (11). USE/ADVANTAGE - Also with power plants and marine engines discharging at high temp. into atmos., electric power can be generated without additional prim. energy demand.
