A microprocessor (16) delivering the ignition signal (19) to the coil (24) incorporates a crankshaft position detector (17) and ignition timing adjuster (18), and responds conventionally to inputs from an engine tachometer (12), air intake flowmeter (13) and generators of crankshaft angle and reference signals (15,14). A detector (30) is added for the movement of the pivot lever from its idling position. Its output modifies the ignition delay introduced when the clutch is operated, to improve stability of the engine. ADVANTAGE - Effectiveness of pivot lever is varied so that engine speed is reduced when clutch is released.
