PURPOSE:To automatically switch to dpi in accordance with a cartridge without troubling a user, to prevent the disagreement of the cartridge with image output caused by erroneous selection by the user, and to execute either low-resolution high speed printing or high-resolution printing in accordance with the cartridge. CONSTITUTION:In the case that substances having different characteristric, such as toner and photosensitive drum, are needed every dpi in a laser beam printer 1 capable of switching the dpi, the kind of the cartridge 2 is changed every dpi and a difference is prepared in the cartridge 2 so that information thereon is automatically transmitted at the time of attaching the cartridge 2 in the laser beam printer 1, and printing in accordance with the dpi of the cartridge 2 is automatically performed and the use state of a memory is changed in accordance with the dpi. |
