The needle roller, to loosen and open up sliver at anopen-end spinner, has a cylindrical body (2) with its interiorconnected to a compressed air supply. Channels lead thecompressed air to radial openings between the needles (4) at thesurface. Pref. a fixed compressed air distribution system iswithin the roller body (2) so that, as the roller rotates, thedistribution channels (7) are successively covered and successiveair channels are charged with the compressed air on rollerrotation. The air passage channels are formed at the base (5) ofthe strips of needles fitted to the roller surface. Thedistribution channels (7) open into the holding grooves (3) forthe needle strips (8) at the base of the grooves. The air passagechannels, in the needle strips (8), extend radially from thedistribution channels (7) to the outer side of the base (4) ofthe needle strips (8). The air passage channels are directly nextto the drillings which hold the needles (4), to open outwards ata gap from the needles (4).
