Band filter for removal of particulate impurities from liquid baths, has a liquid holding trough inside which are arranged guide rollers for a filtration belt entering the trough from the top. The belt is guided with clearance above the trough floor, and emerges from the trough again at the top. The belt takes the form of a driven endless woven sieve screen or an endless driven carrier belt on which is laid, from a roll arranged outside of the trough, a filtration web/felt. A suction chamber for receiving filtered liquor is arranged below the filtration belt. The trough-flow facing surface of the filtration belt is carried by support surfaces upstanding perpendicular to the belt running direction and arranged parallel and adjacent to each other, and on which the floor-facing surface of the filter belt hold-down rollers rest and are retractable from.
