PURPOSE:To widen the selection range of a torque distribution rate, in a differential gear for a vehicle, by contriving the device in such a way that a cam member that is engaged with the pinion carrier of a planetary-gear-type differential mechanism in the rotating direction receives a differential torque to connect a main clutch. CONSTITUTION:When a pilot clutch 87 is connected, a differential torque of a differential mechanism 39 is exerted on a cam 95, and right and left cam thrust forces 111, 113 are caused. By the left thrust force 111, pinion carriers 53, 55 are moved to the left, and the main clutch 61 is pressed between the carrier 53 and a differential gear case 21 so as to be connected. The right thrust force is inputted into the differential gear case 21 via a bearing 99 and a washer 101, and is offset by the left thrust force 111. In this constitution, the pressing force against the main clutch 61 is changed by changing the cam angle of the cam 95, so that a different differential restricting characteristic can be selected.
