The invention relates to pigments containing carbon black and having improved resistance to abrasion, obtainable by coating substrates which are mixed as an aqueous suspension with a carbon black dispersion, an aqueous solution of at least one metal salt being metered into the aqueous mixture of substrate and carbon black and, if appropriate, a metal hydroxide layer free of carbon black being deposited on the substrate, characterised in that the product is ignited at 700 DEG -900 DEG C with the exclusion of oxygen after separation and, if appropriate, subsequent washing and drying.
