Arc discharge type overvoltage suppressor for TV receiver - having ferrite electrodes which require no special sealing or protection

A typical application for the proposed overvoltage suppressor is to the HV circuit of the cathode ray tube in a television receiver. The suppressor can also be used for telecommunications equipment. The suppressor comprises two ferrite electrodes (1,2) with suitably shaped ends, contained in an insulation tube (4). The required gap (3) between electrodes is maintained by the electrode fixing in the tube. The use of ferrite eliminates corrosion attach which can affect metallic electrodes used in similar surroundings. Also the ferrite is not affected by arc discharges. The resistance of the ferrite assists both in limiting the discharge current and in damping any oscillations which may arise during the arcing time.
