PURPOSE:To obtain a simple variable wavelength laser oscillator having a high output, a small size by using a semiconductor laser having a laser light of a special wavelength, exciting a single crystal containing Cr<4+>, and laser- oscillating with the special wavelength. CONSTITUTION:A single crystal containing Cr<4+> is excited by using a semiconductor laser having 0.63-0.85mum of a wavelength of a laser light, and laser-oscillated in at least one wavelength of 1.0-1.6mum. A laser oscillator has a semiconductor laser 1, a condensing lens 2, a single crystal 3 containing tetravalent chromium ions, a mirror or film 4 for totally reflecting a light from the crystal, and a mirror or film 5 for partly transmitting a light from the crystal. As a laser medium, the crystal containing tetravalent chromium ions is used. Particularly, when a light parallel to a b-axis is incident to a forsterite single crystal, a strong absorption of the light having a wide wavelength range at 0.73mum as a center is exhibited. |
